Abstract | Mars has always lived in the shadow of their twin sister Caroline, but when Caroline dies under horrific circumstances, they find themselves thrust into the spotlight. They have often been excluded from the traditions of their politically-connected family due to their genderfluidity, but they insist on taking their sister's place at the prestigious Aspen Conservancy Summer Academy, a place they once fled following a disastrous incident as a camper years ago. Mars soon finds themselves facing old-fashioned gender roles and toxic masculinity, but they are determined to connect with their sister's old friends: a group of girls known as the Honeys, named for the beehives they maintain behind their cabin. Mars believes the Honeys know more than they are letting on about what really happened to Caroline, and Mars realizes there are secrets lurking around every corner of Aspen, ones that people are determined to keep hidden. |
