Messiah, Handel's drama of human redemption and the most popular oratorio in the history of Western music, has retained, for more than 250 years, the power to move listeners musically, spiritually, and charitably. The work has sustained myriad interpretations and revisions (many by Handel himself) and spawned societies dedicated solely to its performance.
