Abstract |
An ethnographic film focusing on the performative traditions of Goddess worship in Gujarat, India, with particular attention to the regional variations of the garba, garbi and ras dances performed during the religious festival, Navaratri (festival of nine nights celebrating the nine forms of the Goddess Shakti). The film exemplifies the impact of globalization, giving rise to new forms such as the disco-garba. |
