Abstract |
Missouri-born Marcia McFee, who formerly danced in the companies of Murray Louis and Alwin Nikolais, talks about her current activities as a master's candidate in theological studies and a dance soloist specializing in dances in religious settings. She describes her use of structured improvisation as the choreographic basis of her performances; finding and enhancing dance spaces in churches; costumes, music, and non-musical accompaniment for her dances; and preparing audiences to view dancing in church. She briefly discusses her early dance studies in Kansas City; college work at Texas Women's University and New York University; and her experiences as a student and performer with Murray Louis and Alwin Nikolais. |
