Abstract An early member of the Indochinese Communist Party, Hoang Quoc Viet describes his early days in the resistance and relates his belief that the French wanted to wipe out the Vietnamese identity. He talks about his experiences at Poulo Condore prison and the inhumane conditions and treatment of prisoners there. Hoang Quoc Viet also recalls the founding of the Viet Minh and tells how the resistance was set up in response to the arrival of the British troops.
