Abstract |
This oratorio premiered in January 1745, and is a masterpiece that shows Handel at the height of his powers both as composer and dramatist. The central figure is Dejanira, despite the title of the work. Handel delivers a masterly portrait of a strong and determined woman gradually undermined from within. |
