Subject(s)
Summary Description: A letter dated December 23, 1765, from Sir Philip Stephens, Secretary of the British Admiralty, to Captain James Cook. In this letter Stephens informs Cook that the requested beer will be sent to the schooner Grenville, but that fresh beef cannot be furnished. On the verso are two earlier letters dated 5th April and 14th December, 1765, regarding ordnance supplies for the Grenville and instructions to proceed to Deptford. This correspondence was sent during Captain James Cook's appointment as marine surveyor of the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador, during which he commanded the schooner Grenville. He returned to England for the winter months, in which time he completed the survey.
