General note | Preston Merrifield printed as an individual in Windsor, Vt. between 1818 and 1874. Merrifeld published other children's chapbooks in the 1820s. Text, layout, and format are similar to other children's chapbooks printed by Merrifield and bearing a wrapper imprint statement naming John Wilcox of Newport, N.H. as the publisher and 1837 as the issue date. Shaw & Shoemaker's American bibliography assigns an estimated publication date of 1810. |
