Abstract | Passing Strange is the story of a young musician who travels to Amsterdam and Berlin to find "the real" after being raised in a church-going middle-class Los Angeles neighborhood. The show was nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning the 2008 Tony for Best Book of a Musical. It also won the Drama Desk Award and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical, as well as the 2008 Obie Award fro Best New American Theater Piece. In addition to writing the book and lyrics to Passing Strange, STEW is the show's co-composer, co-orchestrator and narrator.
