Abstract |
Gustavus, king of Sweden in 1792, falls in love with Amelia, wife of Renato, his trusted counsellor and friend. Amelia returns Gustavus's love, but is discovered by her husband. At a masked ball Renato kills Gustavus, who, as he lies dying, declares Amelia's innocence and forgives Renato. |
