Biographical noteOscar E. DuRant operated a ship chandlery business supplying lubricating oils, mechanical parts, tools, and foodstuffs to merchant and naval vessels throughout World War II, including Liberty and Victory ships constructed in Wilmington. The Stone Towing Line served merchant and naval vessels, repairing damaged ships and providing towage and lighterage services on the Cape Fear River.
