Collection consists mainly of 19th century deeds of the Bason and Price families of Rockingham County, N.C. Other land records include Alamance County, N.C., deeds; land grants from Rockingham and Guilford counties, N.C.; and land descriptions and plats. Other records concerning the Bason, Price, and related families include correspondence, wills, estate records, and financial records. Correspondence includes a letter from a Confederate soldier that describes life at Camp Ashe near Wilmington, N.C.; letters containing genealogical information on the Bason family of Rockingham County, N.C., and the Dishong family of Florida; letters from A. B. Gorrell & Son of the Farmers' Warehouse, Winston, N.C.; and letters regarding the Dishongs's agricultural pursuits in Tampa, Fla. The wills of Sarah Hays of Davidson County, N.C., and Arthur Hays of Rockingham County, N.C., contain genealogical information. Financial records concern land arbitration, the purchase of a slave, promissory obligation, relinquishment, judgments, and taxes. |
