Abstract Singer Billy Davis, Jr. was born on June 26, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1965, he and Lamonte McLemore formed a singing group called The Versatiles with Marilyn McCoo, Florence LaRue, and Ron Townson. The group changed their name to The 5th Dimension, and, from 1966 to 1975, recorded a number of hit songs including the Grammy Award-winning "Up, Up, and Away" and "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In." Davis and McCoo married and left The 5th Dimension in 1975. Together, they released the Grammy-winning single, "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)," in 1976, and hosted The Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. Show on CBS-TV in 1977. Davis later recorded a gospel album. He also founded the Soldiers For the Second Coming Music Ministry and co-authored, with McCoo, Up, Up and Away...How We Found Love, Faith and Lasting Marriage in the Entertainment World.
