Abstract |
Educator Irma Daniels was born on April 21, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her B. S. degree in education from Oshkosh State University in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1971. Daniels began her career in education in Fondulac, Wisconsin where she taught school for one year. After her marriage in 1972, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she taught health and coached a girl's basketball team. She returned to Milwaukee in 1974 and the following year, began working for Milwaukee Public Schools as an elementary and middle school teacher. In 1978, Daniels joined Lady Pitts School Age Parent Center, founded in 1966 by a group of forty African-American women known as the "Our Concern Committee." The school provided comprehensive services to 200 pregnant students in grades six through twelve and a special completion program with job training for forty-five parenting students. At Lady Pitts, Daniels taught prenatal health until her retirement. |
