Abstract |
Banking executive Ronald T. Gault was born on December 18, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois. After earning degrees from Grinnell College, the University of Michigan graduate school and the Washington University School of Law, Gault became active with the National Urban League. From there, he went into the Foreign Service before returning to take a job with the Justice Department in 1965. In 1969, Gault was hired by the Ford Foundation, where he remained until he was named a senior advisor to New York Mayor Ed Koch in 1978. In 1984, Gault was made managing director of 1st Boston Corporation, and ten years later, he was hired by J.P. Morgan as the CEO of business development and client relations in Johannesburg, South Africa. Gault married Charlayne Hunter-Gault, the former CNN bureau chief for South Africa. After returning to the United States, the couple maintained a home in Massachusetts, and remained active supporters of the arts. |
