Abstract |
Corporate executive and lawyer Rufus William McKinney was born on August 6, 1930 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. McKinney attended Arkansas AM&N College receiving his B.A. degree in 1953. After earning his law degree from Indiana University in 1956, McKinney took a position as an attorney and adviser to the U.S. Department of Labor where he remained for thirteen years. In 1969, he became an attorney with Pacific Light Corporation. By 1975, McKinney was vice president for national public affairs with Southern California Gas Company where he remained until he retired in 1995. McKinney was a co-founder of the American Association of Blacks in Energy in 1977, an organization devoted to ensuring minority voices are heard in energy policymaking. He served as chairman and remained active on the board of directors. He also worked with the NAACP and the National Urban League and served on the Maryland Commission on Human Relations. |
