Abstract The notion of teachers as researchers is by no means a new one. More and more schools are engaging in action research as part of their school improvement plans. But what exactly is action research and is it a good thing? To answer these questions we ve filmed three case studies. At St. Georges Primary in Birmingham, a new resource for newly arrived children started life as a small scale piece of research. In another Birmingham school, Colmore Infants, reading at KS1 was identified as a development priority for action research, whilst at Douay Martyrs Secondary in Middlesex we see how they researched a motivational scheme for improving boys performance at GCSE.
