KS3/4 design and technology : sustainability : making a start |
Abstract |
Most Design and Technology teachers are aware that environmental issues have never been more important, and that Education for Sustainable Development is now part of the national curriculum, but many teachers aren't sure how to deal with these issues within their lessons. Although sustainability is now a teaching requirement in Design and Technology, few D&T teachers have had related training and most lack confidence in dealing with it. At Haydon School, a comprehensive in northwest London, the head of D&T, Caroline Penny, is keen to get her department thinking about sustainable issues, but doesn't know how to go about it. Teachers' TV sends designer Kursty Groves along to the school see what she can do to help the department come up with some practical ways of introducing sustainable issues into D&T projects. |
