United States Navy Court of Inquiry (1945) on Commander C. E. Loughlin, USN, of the USS Queenfish (SS-393), in the sinking of the Japanese transport ship AWA MARU, 4/1/1945, which had been granted safe conduct by the Allies to carry supplies to Allied prisoners of war. NRS 1970-36. The court convicted Capt. Loughlin of negligence in obeying orders; but after the war it was proved that AWA MARU was loaded with munitions and contraband; and Capt. Loughlin was returned to duty. |
