Collection consists of five scrapbooks containing items related to the life of Judge Oliver H. Allen and his ancestors and descendants. Of particular interest are items related to Judge Allen's life, the Hicks family of Granville Co., N.C., the WWI service of William A. Allen and Judge Allen's sons Matthew H. Allen and Reynold Tatum Allen, and the lives of Judge Allen's daughter Martha Allen Barnes and her daughter Sarah Allen Barnes, Items include clippings, correspondence, and correspondence of George Fountain Parrot (1912-1914) written by a Naval officer from Lenoir Co., N.C., while stationed aboard ships, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and at Vera Cruz, Mexico. |

Biographical note | Oliver Hicks Allen (1850-1925) was born in Duplin County, North Carolina, to William Anderson Allen and Maria Hicks. Oliver Hicks Allen was a lawyer and Superior Court Judge for twenty-five years. He married Sarah C. Moore, moved to Kinston, N.C., and they had five children: Matthew Hicks Allen, William Anderson Allen, Martha Moore Allen Barnes, Conner Middleton Allen and Reynold Tatum Allen. |
