Diary of Ethel W. Bost written enroute to China between August 20 and September 12, 1925 on her first voyage to China aboard the ship EMPRESS OF RUSSIA of the Canadian Pacific Line. The diary describes her experiences aboard ship, conditions on the ship, other persons traveling to Japan and China, and her sightseeing activities in the Japanese and Chinese ports, including Tokyo. Also included is a list of several of the teachers at the school in Soochow, China. |

Biographical note | Ethel W. Bost (1898-) was a Methodist missionary to Soochow (Suzhou Shi, Jiangsu Sheng), China. Bost was a missionary from 1925 to 1943 before she was captured as a prisoner of war. She was exchanged and returned to Japan as a missionary in 1949 until her retirment in 1969. |
