Abstract |
Diary of Ada Amelia Costin, written as a school exercise in composition. The diary deals primarily with school assignments, weather, and newspaper reports. Included are notes on the militia organization in Wilmington, N.C., troop movements, siege of Fort Sumter, sighting of Union naval vessels in Charleston and Savannah, battles and skirmishes in Virginia and North Carolina, attempted sabotage of the Wilmington-Weldon Railroad, and speeches in Wilmington by Jefferson Davis and Alexander H. Stephens. |
