Summary The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between life review reminiscence and ego integrity among older African American adults. To research this question, 49 participants completed reminiscence and an ego integrity surveys. Participants consisted of older African American adults who ranged in age from 65-93. Four survey administrators assisted participants with the completion of surveys. Participants indicated that they used reminiscence for life review, conversation, to evoke positive feelings, and to relieve boredom. Participants also indicated that reminiscence evoked positive, neutral, and negative feelings at least some of the time. In addition, the majority of the participants stated that their main focal point during reminiscence was adolescence. A Pearson product-moment correlation revealed a significant correlation between frequency of reminiscence and a measure of ego integrity.
