Abstract |
Joyner Library's Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection and the Digital Initiatives team in the Systems Department have developed a digital library to meet the needs of students, historians, genealogists, and other researchers who are interested in eastern North Carolina. During 2003-2004 we digitized and made full-text searchable approximately 200 texts and maps pertaining to the history of 29 counties in eastern North Carolina and works of fiction that relate to some of those counties. The materials were selected from the North Carolina Collection and the Snow L. and B.W.C. Roberts Collection of over 1,100 works of fiction set in North Carolina and dating from 1734. Some materials related to Dare County were selected from the Outer Banks History Center collection. Historic soil surveys and maps with zooming capability are a unique feature of the site. |
