Scope and content Jane Gregory Marrow family papers include correspondence, genealogical information, photographs, and clippings pertaining to different branches of the Marrow family. Genealogical materials concern the Arrington, Philips, and Battle families and include a description of Nashville, N.C. McNeill family information contains detailed reminiscences about the Civil War, including battles at Sharpsburg, Md.; Harper's Ferry, W.Va.; Fredericksburg, Va.; and Drewry's Bluff, Va. Also described are the formation of Company G of the 24th North Carolina Regiment and the foraging for supplies in Greenville, N.C. Includes a watercolor of the Philadelphus Presbyterian Church in Robeson County, N.C. Marrow family records are comprised of correspondence concerning the return of a Civil War sword in 1887 and the sale of the family farm in North Carolina and Virginia. Also included are photographs and clippings concerning the Civil War sword, a list of the family's land holdings, genealogical information, and family photographs. The journal of Dr. J. J. Philips of Edgecombe County, N.C., details the accounts and treatments of his patients (1845). Entries concern the medical treatment of slaves, medicines prescribed, procedures performed, physician consultations, and prices charged.

Biographical noteLucy Jane Gregory Marrow (1916-2006) was born in China where her father, Richard Henry Gregory (1876-1955), worked for the American Tobacco Company. Marrow returned to North Carolina with her mother, Harriet Arrington Gregory (1878-1960), to attend college.
