Scope and content |
This collection includes papers from the Dixon, Murphy, and Taylor families, who were related by marriage in lived primarly in Craven, Lenoir, and Greene counties in North Carolina. The contents of the correspondence reflect the close religious and familial bonds that existed, but also include discussions of various aspects of schoolwork, primarily in Bethany, Va., and various locations in eastern North Carolina. Other topics mentioned include agricultural production and marketing, the hiring of a slave, payment of Confederate taxes in Lenoir County, and passing references to effects of the Civil War. |
