Photocopy of Mintz's brief and rudimentary sketch contains reminiscences of his service in Arkansas and Kentucky. Items of interest include the names of officers and the organization of the company, regiment, and brigade to which Mintz belonged; descriptions of maneuvers from Little Rock to Pocahontas and Gainsville, Ark.; and a brief skirmish with Union troops at Columbus, Kentucky. |

Biographical note | William Decatur ("Dee") Mintz, born May 17, 1837, was a native of Rutherford County, N.C. In the fall of 1860, Mintz traveled to Arkansas, where he enlisted in the Confederate service on May 1, 1861. He first served as third corporal and then as a first lieutenant in Company C of the 5th Arkansas Regiment. |
