Scope and content |
Correspondence is addressed to Frederick Meyer and is generally of a personal nature. Several letters from friends and relatives in Germany, which are written in German, contain family news; recommendation of Meyer from his former employer; and a comment on the Franco-Prussian War and the successes of Bismarck. Of particular interest are letters addressed in 1875 from Kingsville, Johnson County, Mo., from F. A. Meyer to his parents, in which he comments on farm life, rural health conditions, crops, prices, and his desire to return to North Carolina. Deeds are of land purchases in Yadkin County, N.C., by the Meyer and Martin families during the nineteenth century. Other items include tax records; legal documents, which include a bound German passport, United States citizenship application, oath of allegiance to the United States, and voter registration certificate; financial records; statements from the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Association; and church records, which include membership rolls and subscription lists for payment of the pastor's salary of the East Bend Baptist Church, Yadkin County, N.C. |
