Abstract Edgecombe County land records include deeds and land surveys. Legal records include a dower of land left by Isaac Batts to his widow and Benjamin Batts's will. Financial records include contracts for the sale of slaves. Correspondence is primarily related to a search for Batts family genealogical information. Of particular interest is a 1966 reminiscence that comments on the lives of former Batts family slaves and contains a sketch of the family home, Rosedale, along with a description of the various sections of property. Also contains genealogical material relating to the Batts and Bryan families of eastern North Carolina, the Wolf family of Virginia and North Carolina, and other related families. Miscellaneous material includes an inventory of Batts family antiques and heirlooms, a copy of W. P. Cummings's "The Earliest Permanent Settlement in North Carolina," and a publication regarding the Democratic Executive Committee of North Carolina white supremacy campaign.
