| Abstract |
Collection consists of correspondence, legal papers, military papers, financial papers, printed material and miscellany of the Holt family, principally William D. Holt. Correspondence (1868-1869) deals with local reaction to the 1868 election and construction of the North Carolina Railroad. Of particular interest is a letter from Troy G. Holt (April 25, 1889) to Leonidas L. Polk, noted North Carolina political figure, journalist, and founder of the Farmers' Alliance that describes the activities of the local Princeton Farmers' Alliance. The letter contains a comprehensive statement of the Alliance philosophy. Other material consists of military papers of the North Carolina Home Guard, personal legal papers, financial records, including a statement of cotton sales at Wilmington, N.C. (1861); account of local votes for the 1860 gubernatorial election; and printed materials related to reconstruction (1866, 1867), the temperance movement (1848), Wilmington market prices (1869), and a Republican election campaign (n.d.). |
