Summary This achromatic telescope has a wooden barrel and two brass draw tubes. The other brass fittings include a sliding eyepiece cover, an objective lens cap with a sliding cover and a sliding sunshade. An inscription on the smallest draw tube names the maker and telescope type - 'Spencer Browning & Rust, London. DAY OR NIGHT'. In addition, roman numerals are roughly inscribed in a number of places, presumably as part of the manufacturing and assembly process. The telescope is said to have belonged to Rear Admiral John Pasco (1774-1853), Signal Lieutenant in 'Victory' at the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805.
