Abstract |
Judge Alford Dempsey was born on March 19, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1965, he graduated from New Hampton School, a boarding school in New Hampshire. Dempsey attended Columbia University and Morehouse College, where he earned his B.A. degree in economics in 1972. In 1976, Dempsey received his J.D. degree from the Harvard School of Law and worked on Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign. The following year, Dempsey became assistant city attorney for the Atlanta's law department. In 1992, Dempsey was named judge of the Magistrate Court of Fulton County/State Court in Atlanta, and three years later, he was appointed to the Fulton County Superior Court where he presided over civil and felony criminal cases. Dempsey helped to develop and implement the Fulton County Family Court. He has also been active in numerous community organizations and has served as district chair of the South Atlanta District of the Boy Scouts of America. |
