Abstract |
Community leader and activist Art Minson was born on January 1, 1914 in Fairmont, West Virginia. For more than half a century, Minson was an advocate for issues affecting Akron, Ohio, particularly the city's East Side. An employee of Goodyear for forty years, Minson was a union official with the United Rubber Workers before retiring in 1980. From that point, he was active in several organizations, including National Peoples Action and East Akron Community House. He served as an adviser for the Millennium Children's Fund and as a board member of Ohio Citizen Action. Through his church, Minson helped start a food pantry that served the community on a daily basis, and he also helped devise a program to educate community members. In May 2002, Minson was recognized for a lifetime of service to his community with the Cliff Skeen Lifetime Achievement Award. Minson passed away on December 14, 2005 at age 91. |
