Abstract |
Book publisher and writer Wade Hudson, Jr. was born on October 23, 1946 in Mansfield, Louisiana. In 1972, Hudson married Cheryl Willis Hudson. Hudson and his wife developed the AFRO-BETS kids, black characters who formed the shape of the alphabet. They self-published after two years of rejections from other publishers. The AFRO-BETS line of books sold out within three months. Hudson and his wife then founded Just Us Books, Inc. which published books and educational material for children related to the black experience. Hudson serves as president of the company while his wife works as the editor. In 2004, the Hudson's started Sankofa Books, an imprint which publishes out-of-print black classics. Hudson is the author of more than twenty books, a playwright and public speaker. The Secret Olivia Told Me, a picture book published by Just Us Books, was awarded the Coretta Scott King Honor Award for illustration. |
