Abstract Civic volunteer and foundation CEO Alexine Clement Jackson was born on June 10, 1936 in Sumter, South Carolina. Jackson earned her B.A. degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and her M.A. degree from the University of Iowa. Jackson led the American delegation to the 1999 World YWCA Council in Cairo and was a delegate in the 1995 Council in South Korea. She was involved in a number of organizations, including the YWCA. She served as national president of the YWCA and traveled the world to witness and try to improve the conditions of women. As a survivor of breast cancer, she was also active in educating minorities and the medically underrepresented about the disease, serving as the chairperson of the Intercultural Cancer Council. Jackson was active with numerous other organizations and was honored with numerous awards. She was named the Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian magazine.
