Abstract | This workshop demonstrates how to create and use visual tools for working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We start with creating simple tools such as visual schedules and first-then boards, and then look at inexpensive commercial apps that provide similar functionality. Next, we discuss how to make picture stories, as well as stories that teach both rules and lessons. This is followed by a review of commercial apps for authoring stories for children with ASD. Finally, we look at four different methods of utilizing video as a way to increase functional and positive behavior skills. We cover the entire process of making each of these types of videos, using pre-taped video clips as examples. |
