Summary |
The purpose of this study was to assess the creative potential of 33 handicapped preschool children aged three and four years old. The subjects were administered Torrance's Thinking Creatively in Action and Movement (1981) to measure creativity through the kinesthetic modality. By eliciting motor and/or verbal responses, barriers to communication were reduced or eliminated for this handicapped population. The study compared the scores of non-handicapped statistics to the scores obtained by the children tested. The teachers and parents of the handicapped children also rated their perception of the children's creative potential using an informal rating scale. The scores on the rating scale were compared to the actual test scores of the handicapped preschoolers. The parents' perception of their children's creativity were not as accurate as the teachers' evaluation when compared to the actual test performance. |
