|
General note | Except for the title page and the concluding advertisement, the contents and typography are identical with those of the Virginia Planter's almanac for 1809, Richmond: Seaton Grantland for John Dickson, Petersburg (Shaw & Shoemaker 50900). |
General note | The eclipse notes and calendar pages are so similar in format and content to those of almanacs by Benjamin Bates for other years that the present one, although unsigned, may be confidently attributed to him. An almanac bearing his name (Shaw & Shoemaker 50829) was also issued by Seaton Grantland for this year. According to W.W. Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker genealogy, vol. 6, the calculator may be Benjamin Bates, 1769-1812. The last Bates almanacs were for 1813. |
