Abstract |
Matt, banished from Harvard when his roommate sets him up as a drug-bust patsy, relocates to England, reconnecting with his sister Shannon. The naive Yank quickly finds himself passed off to Shannon's brother-in-law. Pete is a member of a 'firm'-thugs who with their ferociously bloodthirsty, off-the-pitch street battles are emblematic of the testosterone fueled psychosis of British football hooliganism-"supporting the home team," West Ham United. At first the butt of jokes, Matt is inexorably sucked in by these mad, bad, dangerous-to-know Hammers fans and into the black hole of thuggery, first hoisting incalculable pints, singing indecipherable anthems, preparing, again and again, to war on the terraces of the home turf for nothing much at all. |
