Summary	The development of the Nigerian petroleum industry has been accompanied by long-term crisis for many Nigeria citizens. Low standards of living, intense conflict and environmental degradation are prevalent issues within Nigerian society. This work investigates the relationship between oil, politics and contemporary crisis in Nigeria.
