Herbert M. Wilkerson, a 1940 graduate of East Carolina Teachers College, got a commission as an Ensign in 1942. Wilkerson comments on his experiences in the Pacific during WWII including the sinking of the USS Helena CL-50 at the Battle of Kula Gulf, the USS Honolulu CL-48 in the Philippines, and the USS Mobile CL-63. |
